Nepali soldier Bibek Khatri captured by Ukrainian forces
A young Nepali named Bibek Khatri, who had enlisted in the Russian military and participated in combat, has been apprehended by the Ukrainian army. Hailing from the district of Bardiya in Nepal, Khatri was captured in Avdivka, Ukraine.
Anton Herashchenko, the former deputy minister of internal affairs in Ukraine, has officially confirmed that Khatri is now in Ukrainian custody. Khatri had signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and served in one of the Russian Airborne Forces brigades.
In a candid admission, Khatri confessed that he had joined the Russian army with the sole intention of making money. “I wanted to return to my mother as a successful man,” he stated.
Heraschenko took to Twitter to share a video of Khatri in which the detainee claimed that he had joined the Russian army to bolster his country’s economic standing. This incident sheds light on the recruitment of individuals from foreign nations by both Russia and Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
The invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which began in February 2022, has led to both nations seeking individuals of foreign origin to bolster their armed forces.
