Nepal’s Foreign Minister Meets US Under Secretary to Discuss Peace and Transitional Justice
Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, today in Washington DC. The meeting focused on matters of peace, human rights, and democracy, with particular emphasis on Nepal’s recently passed transitional justice laws.
According to the Embassy of Nepal in Washington DC, Foreign Minister Rana highlighted the passage of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) bill by Nepal’s parliament. She expressed optimism that the remaining steps in the peace process would soon be completed, noting that the new law is designed to be victim-friendly and address past injustices.
Minister Rana arrived in Washington DC on Sunday following her participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
