Nepal’s Foreign Minister Orders Monitoring of Nepalis in Israel and Lebanon Amid Safety Concerns
Amid rising concerns about the safety of Nepali citizens in Israel and Lebanon, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, has instructed Nepalese embassies in both countries to closely monitor the situation. Dr. Rana held virtual meetings with Nepali ambassadors to these nations on Sunday to gather updates on the latest developments and ensure the safety of Nepalis residing there.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining strong communication with Nepalis in these countries and providing necessary assistance. “Try to get in touch with all Nepalis there. Coordinate for those who want to return home. Do the necessary homework for any rescue and repatriation efforts,” she instructed.
Dr. Rana also directed embassies to issue official notices appointing contact persons and establishing help desks to facilitate any potential rescue or repatriation operations.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Egypt, Sushil Lamsal, who oversees Lebanon, confirmed the safety of Nepali nationals in Lebanon, where around 1,200 Nepalis, primarily domestic workers, reside. According to Lamsal, only three Nepalis have been in contact with the embassy, and they are confirmed to be safe in Beirut. No reports have emerged of Nepalis facing any immediate threats or issues.
Similarly, Kumar Shrestha, Charge d’Affaires in Israel, reassured the Foreign Minister that the situation there remains normal, with approximately 4,500 Nepalis confirmed safe. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Tapas Adhikari, provided updates on the situation in Iran.
Dr. Rana’s swift action reflects the government’s priority to safeguard its citizens abroad and prepare for any necessary repatriation efforts if the situation worsens.
