Nepal’s Leaders Shaped by Late BP Koirala’s Vision, says PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ also the Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Centre), emphasized the enduring influence of late BP Koirala’s ideas on leaders of all political parties in Nepal during a program organized by the Nepali Congress (NC) to mark the 48th National Unity and Reconciliation Day.

In his address, PM Prachanda hailed BP Koirala as a towering and popular leader of the democratic movement, asserting that Koirala’s ideas continue to shape the political landscape. He commended the Nepali Congress for creating an opportunity to renew commitments for the country by inviting high-ranking leaders from various political parties who have contributed to democracy.

Expressing gratitude towards the NC, Prachanda called for consensus among all political parties to complete the remaining tasks of the peace process. He assured that the incumbent coalition government, in which the Maoist Centre is a key player, is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities and working towards the prosperity of the people.

Prachanda urged the Nepali Congress, as a coalition partner, to take ownership of the positive initiatives undertaken by the government, highlighting achievements in social justice, addressing loan shark victim concerns, resolving citizenship issues, and addressing laborers’ grievances.

The Prime Minister also addressed a tragic incident in Balkumari, Lalitpur, where two youths lost their lives last Friday. He expressed grief over the incident and informed that an investigation committee had been formed to probe the matter. Additionally, steps are being taken to provide compensation to the families of the victims.

As the Nepali Congress observes National Unity and Reconciliation Day on Poush 16 every year, PM Prachanda acknowledged the historical significance of this day. He recalled the return of leaders, including BP Koirala, Ganesh Man Singh, Shailaja Acharya, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Ram Bahadur Prasai, and Nilamber Panthi, from exile in India on Poush 16, 2033 BS. Their return marked a policy of reconciliation and unity for the nation.
