NEPSE Index Rises by 26 Points, Halting Market’s Downward Trend

After a continuous decline last week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index saw a positive shift today, gaining 26.10 points to close at 2,640.78.

Today’s trading witnessed the exchange of 9,739,738 shares from 326 companies through 58,235 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 4.48 billion.

All sectoral sub-indices recorded gains, with the finance group seeing the highest increase of 3.52 percent. The banking and development banks sectors both rose by 0.71 percent, while hotels and tourism increased by 1.03 percent. Hydropower, investment, and life insurance saw gains of 0.95 percent, 0.83 percent, and 1.46 percent respectively. The production and processing sector went up by 0.78 percent, microfinance by 0.79 percent, mutual funds by 0.44 percent, non-life insurance by 0.65 percent, trade by 1.06 percent, and the “others” category by 1.50 percent.

Among the top performers, Guardian Microlife Insurance had the highest price increase of 9.51 percent, while Upper Hewakhola Hydropower Company Limited experienced the most significant drop, declining by 4.26 percent.

In terms of transaction volume, Himalayan Re-Insurance Limited led with trades worth Rs 326.98 million. The highest number of shares traded was 710,000 from Sanima Growth Fund.

The market’s positive performance today suggests renewed investor confidence after last week’s slump.
