New Immigration Office Set Up at Korala Checkpoint in Upper Mustang
An immigration office has been established at the Korala checkpoint in Lomanthang, Upper Mustang, facilitating cross-border travel and trade with China. The District Administration Office in Mustang reported that the office would be officially inaugurated within the next few days.
Assistant Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Subedi confirmed that all preparations for the inauguration are complete. “Once operational, the new office will streamline import and export processes, and permit Nepali citizens to cross the border, while also allowing Chinese tourists to visit Mustang with a visa,” Subedi stated.
Currently, only residents of Mustang hold permits to enter China through the Korala checkpoint. The new immigration office, housed in a newly constructed 10-room Immigration and Security Post building, will expand access to all Nepali citizens. The office is also part of a broader plan to establish integrated services at the checkpoint by constructing necessary infrastructure.
