Newly Appointed Madhesh CM Singh Sworn In
Satish Singh has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Madhesh Province. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Chief of Madhesh Province, Sumitra Subedi Bhandari, on Friday, marking the official commencement of Singh’s tenure.
Singh’s appointment comes after gaining the backing of a substantial majority of members from various political parties, as stipulated by Article 168(5) of the Constitution. A coalition of 56 Members of Parliament (MPs) from CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Nagarik Unmukti Party, and other smaller parties threw their support behind him, solidifying his claim to the position.
Hailing from Constituency 2 of Saptari, Singh brings with him a wealth of experience in grassroots politics. His journey began with his election as the ward chair in Tilathi Koilaldi Rural Municipality in Saptari during the 2017 local-level elections. Despite a setback in the subsequent 2022 elections where he lost his position, Singh remained resilient, eventually securing a seat in the province assembly from the Janmat Party during the general elections of the same year.
