Nine Complaints Filed Against 17 Proposed Ambassadors at Parliamentary Hearing Committee
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has received nine complaints against 17 individuals proposed as ambassadors to various countries by the government. This was revealed during today’s meeting of the committee. The hearing on these complaints is scheduled to begin on August 30, as announced by Committee President Ishwori Devi Neupane.
“Nine complaints have been filed against 17 ambassadors proposed by the government for various countries. We will call the complainants to the committee and ask them to clarify the subject of their complaint and its rationale,” Neupane stated. The committee has revised and passed a schedule in accordance with Section 15 of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee Procedure to ensure the hearing process is concluded efficiently, with discussions to be held by calling the proposed ambassadors.
During the meeting, several lawmakers expressed concerns regarding the lack of inclusivity in the ambassadorial appointments. Lawmakers such as Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Janardan Sharma, Prakash Adhikari, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Leelanath Shrestha, Ishwori Gharti, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, and Bhagawati Neupane voiced their dissatisfaction, stating that the government failed to ensure the representation of Dalit, Madhesi, and Muslim communities in the recommendations for ambassadors.
The lawmakers highlighted that the committee’s previous requests for maintaining inclusivity in ambassadorial appointments had not been implemented. The government had recommended the following individuals for ambassadorships:
- Prof Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli as ambassador to China
- Sunnima Tuladhar to Denmark
- Dr. Shail Rupakheti to Germany
