Nira Pandey murder case: Police arrests suspect following CCTV footage
Nepal Police made a public to Binod Bishwkarma, who was arrested on Friday night by the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police from Dhulabari of Jhapa on charges of murdering Nira Pandey.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police held a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday to announce the arrest of Binod Bishwkarma and to provide more information about the investigation of the case.
Nira Pandey, who was running a pottery shop in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, Kapan, Saraswatinagar was stabbed to death in broad daylight from her shop.
Binod’s involvement in the murder was confirmed by the police following CCTV footage.
The investigation conducted by the police revealed that Binod stayed in Kathmandu for about a week after committing the crime. During this time, he reportedly observed the activities in Nira’s shop before eventually deciding to commit the murder.
According to CIB spokesperson Dinesh Acharya, Binod initially entered Nira’s shop at around 2 am on the day of the incident but left without making a purchase. He then visited an ATM at around 2:33 pm before returning to the shop at 2:44 pm. It was at this point that Binod reportedly took a knife from the shop and stabbed Nira multiple times.
Following the attack, Binod fled the scene of the crime, taking Nira’s gold chain and Rs 1,200 from the shop’s counter. He then boarded a Safe tempo and traveled to Om Hospital before reaching Jadibuti on a motorbike. From there, he walked to his friend’s residence in Lokanthali.
The police have recovered the clothes and shoes that Binod was wearing at the time of the crime. Furthermore, the authorities confirmed that Binod sold the gold chain at Pathibhara Jewelers in Tarakeshwar on April 26 for Rs 55,000. It is said hat he left for Jhapa on the same day.
