NSU Turmoil: Siege Announced on Deuba’s Residence

The central office of the Nepali Congress remains in a state of tension as internal strife within the party intensifies. The focus of this growing turmoil has shifted to a bold announcement made by a group of disgruntled students from the Nepal Students Union (NSU). These students, expressing their dissatisfaction with President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s recent actions, have declared their intention to stage a siege on President Deuba’s residence tomorrow.

The rift within the NSU emerged as a result of President Deuba’s decision to expand the central ad-hoc committee of the student union. This decision, which the dissenting students argue is contrary to the party’s established policies and legal framework, has ignited protests and clash.

Led by student leaders including Yogendra Rawal, Ashok Bista, and Binod Shahi, the protesting students attempted to create a parallel committee within the NSU to voice their concerns. However, their plans were met with resistance as they were denied access to the party office amidst a significant police presence.

The situation escalated when another faction of NSU students, who are supportive of NSU President Dujang Sherpa, launched a counter-protest in the same vicinity. This clash between the two factions prompted police intervention to prevent further escalation of violence.

In a remarkable turn of events, Yogendra Rawal, one of the leaders advocating for the parallel committee, announced their intention to besiege President Deuba’s residence tomorrow. This announcement comes after their failed attempt to enter the party office and signifies an escalation in their efforts to express their dissent.

The impending siege on President Deuba’s residence is expected to be a critical moment in this ongoing political turmoil. It raises concerns about the potential for further clashes, increased tensions, and the impact of these events on the overall stability of the Nepali Congress party.
