NTA Issues Ultimatum to United Telecommunication Limited Over Rs 7.42 Billion Arrears
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to United Telecommunication Limited to settle a substantial debt of Rs 7.42 billion.
Through a public notice released today, the NTA has directed United Telecommunication Limited to clear the outstanding payment in adherence to the terms and conditions outlined in the basic telephony service license agreement.
The outstanding amount, totaling Rs 7,429,337,337, comprises various fees, including license renewal fees, frequency fees, royalties, and contributions to the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund, among others.
The notice explicitly instructs United Telecommunication Limited to settle the dues within 15 days from the publication date of the notice, which is June 14.
Failure to meet this deadline may result in severe consequences, including the potential cancellation of the telecommunications license under the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS.
The NTA’s firm stance underscores the importance of adhering to regulatory obligations within the telecommunications sector and ensuring the financial sustainability of telecom operators in Nepal.
