Nubri Valley in Gorkha Sees First Major Snowfall of the Season

Nubri Valley in northern Gorkha has been experiencing heavy snowfall since last night, marking the first significant snowfall of the season after a prolonged dry spell, according to local resident Nima Lama. The area had seen light snowfall two days earlier.
Snow has accumulated up to a foot in regions including Samdo, the northeastern belt of Gorkha, as well as Samagaun and Sylala in the lower areas. The snowfall has disrupted daily life, affecting telephone and internet services powered by solar energy.
Tourist guide Surya Khanal reported that both domestic and international tourists have been impacted. “We have had to delay our trip to Larke Pass due to the snowfall,” he said. Additionally, mountaineers aiming to climb Mount Manaslu remain stranded in Samdo due to adverse weather conditions.
Despite the hardships, locals are welcoming the snowfall, hoping it will benefit their crops, including barley, potatoes, and buckwheat, which are key agricultural products in Samagaun and Samdo.
Meanwhile, Chum Valley has seen partly to generally cloudy weather conditions.
