Oli Emphasizes Zero Poverty Goal
In a recent address at a program organized by the Kathmandu District Committee, CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Oli underscored the imperative for the government to prioritize poverty reduction efforts. Highlighting the alarming increase in poverty under the previous administration, Chair Oli emphasized the current government’s commitment to reducing poverty to zero.
Chair Oli articulated that it would be futile for the government to hold power if it fails to implement policies that significantly diminish poverty levels. Drawing inspiration from China’s success in eradicating poverty, he stressed the need to incorporate similar strategies into Nepal’s national agenda.
Acknowledging the setbacks in poverty alleviation during previous governance, Chair Oli expressed determination to reverse the trend. Underlining the tangible progress made during CPN (UML)’s tenure, he lamented the subsequent rise in poverty rates post their term, indicating a pressing need for proactive measures.
Chair Oli reminisced about CPN (UML)’s previous initiatives that positively impacted citizens’ lives, including programs targeting street children, the vulnerable, and differently-abled individuals. However, he lamented the discontinuation of these noble efforts after the change in government.
The address resonated with the urgency to address poverty comprehensively, with an emphasis on sustaining impactful policies across political transitions. As Nepal grapples with socio-economic challenges, the CPN (UML) leadership reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize poverty eradication as a cornerstone of governance.
