One Year Since Naming of Koshi Province, Black Day Observed in Kathmandu
It has been a year since the designation of Koshi Province, yet dissent lingers as identity advocates continue to oppose the name, advocating for its reconsideration.
Last year, on Falgun 16, amidst significant controversy, the Koshi Province Assembly convened and resolved to name Province 1 as Koshi Province.
As the anniversary approached, the Koshi Province Re-nomination Joint Struggle Committee commemorated the occasion with a black day observance in the capital on Thursday.
Residents of Koshi Province, residing in Kathmandu Valley and staunch supporters of preserving their identity, gathered in Tinkune, Kathmandu, staging a protest and urging authorities to revoke the designation “Koshi.”
Proponents of identity preservation voiced their dissent, using placards and demonstrations to underscore their demand for the annulment of the name “Koshi.”
The protests highlight the ongoing discord surrounding the naming of Koshi Province, underscoring the importance of dialogue and consensus-building in addressing such contentious issues.
