Opposition Leaders Meet President Paudel to Discuss Government Shortcomings
Leaders from major opposition parties in Nepal’s Federal Parliament met with President Ramchandra Paudel at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Sheetal Niwas, to voice concerns about the government’s recent actions. The meeting, held today, included CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and other opposition figures who aimed to inform the President of what they described as shortcomings in Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government.
According to President Paudel’s press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the opposition leaders discussed their concerns regarding alleged activities by the government that they believe go against the spirit of the constitution and the principles of pluralism. They urged the President to play his role as a protector of democracy and the constitution.
In response, President Paudel assured the opposition leaders of his unwavering commitment to upholding the constitution, promoting national unity, and working within the bounds set by the law. “I want to assure you that I will work in accordance with the principles of the Constitution and the principles of democracy,” President Paudel told the delegation.
The opposition leaders present at the meeting included Chairman Dahal, Shakti Basnet, MPs Shishir Khanal and Sumana Shrestha from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, leaders Budhisman Tamang and Hemjung Gurung from the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Senior Vice President Rajendra Prasad Pandey, and leader Tilak Thapamagar from the Aam Janata Party.
The opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), Rashtriya Swatantra Party, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Aam Janata Party, collectively sought the President’s intervention to ensure the government’s adherence to constitutional values and democratic principles.
