Over 110,000 Adolescent Girls in Kathmandu to Receive HPV Vaccine

More than 110,000 adolescent girls in Kathmandu district are set to receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as part of a nationwide initiative to prevent cervical cancer.

At a program organized by the Public Health Office, Kathmandu, senior public health administrator Satish Bista announced that 110,263 girls aged 10 to 14 from the district’s 11 local levels would be vaccinated. The campaign will target 97,540 girls enrolled in Grades 6 to 10, along with 12,723 out-of-school girls in the same age group.

The vaccination drive will be conducted from February 5 to 18, utilizing 1,101 schools and 146 additional vaccination centers. A total of 2,412 health workers will be mobilized for the campaign in Kathmandu district.

Basanta Adhikari, Chief of the Public Health Office, Kathmandu, stated that vaccination committees have been formed under the coordination of mayors and municipal chairpersons to ensure the campaign’s success. The initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to vaccinate 1.688 million adolescent girls nationwide.

The HPV vaccine campaign marks a significant step in Nepal’s efforts to combat cervical cancer and safeguard the health of its young population.
