Paddy Production Declines in Bagmati Province
Paddy production in Bagmati Province has decreased by 1.37% this year due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains on September 27–28, according to the Bagmati Province Agriculture Development Directorate.
Agriculture economist Nabin Kunwar reported that paddy was cultivated on 105,415 hectares this fiscal year, yielding 408,316 metric tons at an average rate of 3.87 metric tons per hectare. This is a decline compared to the previous fiscal year, 2080/81 BS, when 413,988 metric tons were harvested from 109,151 hectares.
Despite the overall drop, paddy production has increased in districts such as Chitwan, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Nuwakot. Chitwan, the province’s largest paddy-producing area, saw significant yields, producing 98,355 metric tons from 23,700 hectares at a rate of 4.15 metric tons per hectare.
The Directorate emphasized the impact of adverse weather conditions on paddy yields and highlighted the need for measures to mitigate such losses in the future.
