In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, parliamentarians called on the government to address the urgent issues caused by floods, landslides, and inundation affecting various parts of the country. During the ‘Urgent Hour,’ they emphasized the need for effective natural disaster risk management, relief, and rescue operations.
Lawmakers Surya Thapa, Maya Rai, Hemraj Rai, and Prem Maharjan highlighted the importance of providing immediate relief to victims of natural disasters. MP Madhav Sapkota raised concerns over the government’s decision to appoint Devendra Karki and Mahendra Gurung as board members of the Nepal Electricity Authority, replacing Kapil Acharya and Bhakta Bahadur Pun. He also questioned the role of the Public Account Committee regarding the recovery of dedicated and trunk line dues, and demanded that the opposition party should hold the presidency of the committee.
Lawmaker Sovita Gautam expressed feelings of insecurity and mistreatment during her visit to her election constituency. MP Dr. Amresh Kumar Singh criticized the government for its lack of responsibility and seriousness in addressing issues within the cooperative sector. He also called for the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate ‘insider trading’ and ‘cornering’ in the stock market.
During the session, lawmakers Tara Lama and Ranedra Barali raised various current issues. Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasia is set to submit an order to remove obstacles in accordance with Section 42 of the Commission for Investigation, Truth, and Reconciliation Act, 2071 BS, following a decision by the Council of Ministers.
Additionally, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Bidya Bhattarai presented a proposal in the National Assembly to send the Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences Bill, 2080 BS, to the relevant committee for clause-wise discussion.
The session underscored the urgency of addressing natural disasters and other pressing issues, with parliamentarians urging the government to take swift and effective action to support affected communities and improve governance.
