Parsa Administration Moves to Reform Overcrowded Child Correction Centre

The District Administration Office in Parsa has initiated measures to address the challenges facing the child correction centre in the district.
In a recent meeting chaired by Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal, a 13-point decision was made to rectify the shortcomings within the facility. Expressing concern over the dire conditions of children housed in the centre, Aryal emphasized the need for immediate intervention, with support from both the administration and donor agencies.
On Tuesday, boys residing in the correction home staged a demonstration, presenting a 22-point demand to CDO Aryal, Police Chief Gautam Mishra, and other officials. In response, the administration pledged several improvements to enhance the facility’s conditions. Birgunj Metropolitan City will ensure a steady supply of drinking water through deep boring, while the Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be approached to arrange alternative energy sources for a stable electricity supply. To strengthen security, a CCTV system will be installed at the centre, and unrelated individuals will be restricted from entering.
The administration has also committed to improving the overall living conditions within the centre. Fans will be provided, and necessary repairs to physical structures will be carried out. Children suffering from tuberculosis will receive treatment in coordination with Birgunj Metropolitan City. To support their education, organizations of private school teachers will supply textbooks and other materials, and the metropolis will assign a teacher for those willing to continue their studies. Additionally, weekly psychosocial counseling sessions will be arranged.
Despite having a capacity of just 50, the facility is currently overcrowded with 127 children, underscoring the urgent need for reforms.
