Patan High Court orders release of Sandeep Lamichhane on bail

The hearing on the high-profile case of Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who is accused of rape, has been finished.

The Patan High Court has ordered to release rape-accused cricket star Lamichhane on bail.

The Kathmandu District Court on November 4 had passed the order to send Lamichhane to the Sundhara-based central jail after a detention hearing.

Sandeep filed a petition in the Patan High Court against the order of the Kathmandu District Court to keep him in custody.

Responding to a review petition filed by Lamichhane, a joint bench of judges Dhruva Raj Nanda and Ramesh Dahal ordered to release Lamichhane on a bail bond of Rs2 million with conditions.

Lamichhane, now will fight the legal battle by staying out of the jail. If the charge against him is proven, he will be imprisoned for 10 to 12 years per the existing legal provisions.
