Petroleum Drilling in Bhairavi Nears 80% Completion
The exploration of petroleum products in the Jaljale area of Bhairavi Rural Municipality-1 is nearing a crucial phase, with nearly 79% of the drilling completed, according to Ganesh Nath Tripathi, Chief of the Petroleum Project Division under Nepal’s Department of Mines and Geology.
The project, which is expected to drill to a depth of 4,000 meters, will confirm the presence of petroleum only upon reaching this milestone depth. Currently, the project has received a grant of NPR 2.5 billion from the Chinese government and is being executed in collaboration with the China Geological Survey and Sibu Drilling Engineering Company.
Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel visited the site to monitor the progress and meet with officials overseeing the drilling operations. His visit underscored local and national interest in the potential discovery, which could significantly impact Nepal’s energy sector if viable petroleum reserves are confirmed.
With China’s technical and financial support, Nepal hopes that this project will pave the way toward self-reliance in energy and open doors to a new chapter in the country’s natural resource exploration.
