Phanindra Devkota Re-Appointed as Minister in Gandaki Province

Phanindra Devkota, a lawmaker from the Nepal Samajbadi Party, has been re-appointed as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Drinking Water in Gandaki Province today.

Devkota’s reappointment comes after a notable comeback to the Gandaki Provincial Assembly on Friday, following a Supreme Court ruling in his favor. The court dismissed the action previously taken against him.

Chief Minister Surendra Pandey of the Nepali Congress (NC) appointed Devkota to the ministerial position on Sunday.

Earlier, Devkota had contested the decision of the CPN (Maoist Center) to take action against him at the Supreme Court, filing a writ petition and claiming that the decision was unconstitutional. Despite directives from the Maoist parliamentary party, Devkota had supported CM Pandey with his vote of confidence.

The Maoist Center’s response to this move was to take action against Devkota, which initially resulted in the loss of his MP status.
