Phunjo Lama Sets Record for Fastest Ascent of Sagarmatha

Nepali woman climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama from Gorkha district has set a new record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest, reaching the world’s highest peak in under 15 hours.

Phunjo achieved this remarkable feat on Thursday, reaching the summit at 6:23 a.m., making her the fastest woman to ascend Everest. Her journey began at 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday from Everest Base Camp, culminating in a record-setting time of 14 hours and 31 minutes.

Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Tourism Department’s Temporary Field Office, confirmed Phunjo’s record-breaking ascent, noting the precise time she reached the summit.

This is not Phunjo’s first record on Everest. In 2018, she made headlines by scaling the peak in 39 hours and 6 minutes. Her latest achievement further cements her status as one of the most accomplished climbers in the history of Everest expeditions.
