PM Dahal Calls for Overhauling Airport Security Management

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of airport security management, asserting that it serves as the primary gateway to national security.

Addressing a pivotal discussion on ‘airport security management and government’s strategy’ at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, PM Dahal underscored the significance of robust security measures within airport premises. He stressed the importance of learning from past mistakes and ushering in a new era of enhanced vigilance. “We must engage in serious deliberations and assess the prevailing situation to prevent the recurrence of historical errors. Adapting to change is crucial, encompassing a shift in mindset, structure, work methodology, and accountability,” stated the Prime Minister.

To facilitate a comprehensive evaluation of the security framework at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the Prime Minister proposed the establishment of a task force that will meticulously study and subsequently implement the necessary changes based on its findings.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka echoed the sentiment, highlighting the transformative influence of cutting-edge technology and methodologies on criminal activities. Stressing the need for a novel security approach, he emphasized the importance of dismantling criminal networks through innovative security measures.

Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat emphasized the imperative for seamless coordination among state mechanisms to augment security efforts. He also emphasized the need for a balanced system of rewards and consequences.

Home Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai delivered a comprehensive presentation, detailing the current state of airport security management, the responsibilities of pertinent authorities, existing challenges, and future strategies. Bhattarai underscored that the nation’s overall security situation remains stable.

The distinguished gathering included ministers, national security advisors, the chief secretary, heads of security agencies, the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, ministry secretaries, and department heads, among other prominent stakeholders.

The discourse exemplifies Nepal’s commitment to fortify its security framework, adapting to emerging challenges and ensuring the safety of its citizens and visitors alike.
