PM Oli Announces Rs 6.5 Million Cash Prize for Paralympic Bronze Medalist Palesha Goverdan

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million to Palesha Goverdan, who made history by winning a bronze medal at the Paralympics in Paris. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, where PM Oli honored the athlete on Wednesday and extended his congratulations and best wishes.

Palesha secured the bronze medal in the under-57 kg women’s taekwondo K-44 category, defeating her Serbian opponent with a score of 15-8. She is the first Nepali athlete to win a medal in the Paralympics, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sporting history.

At the event, PM Oli praised Palesha’s remarkable achievement, stating, “As Nepali players participate in international games, all Nepalis expect their achievement and excellence.” He emphasized that her victory is not just a personal triumph but a victory for Nepal, adding, “It was not simply Nepal’s presence in the Paralympics this time but Nepal’s compelling performance, which elated all of us.”

The Prime Minister also encouraged Nepali athletes to continue their pursuit of excellence and set new records in the world of sports. “Our campaign for achievements has kicked off,” he noted, expressing confidence in Nepal’s potential in international competitions.

In addition to Palesha, her coach, manager, and other players were also honored at the ceremony for their contributions to this historic accomplishment.
