Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed officials to enhance preparations for the upcoming ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’ (Sagarmatha Dialogue), scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18.
During an inspection of the Sagarmatha Sambaad Secretariat at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, PM Oli emphasized the need for efficient organization of the high-profile event.
A Directive Committee, chaired by PM Oli, has been formed to oversee the program, while a Management Committee is headed by Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, with Minister for Forests Ain Bahadur Shahi serving as co-chair. Additionally, a dedicated secretariat has been established under the coordination of a Secretary from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The government has extended invitations to heads of state and government leaders from several countries, including India and China, as special guests. Member-Secretary of the Secretariat, Dr. Maheshwor Dhakal, stated that a press conference will be held soon to update the public on the event’s preparations.
The Sagarmatha Sambaad was initiated by PM Oli to mark the International Year of Glacier Preservation 2025. The inaugural edition of the global dialogue will focus on the theme “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity.”
