PM Oli Invited to Attend 21st National Jyapu Day Celebration

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has received the customary invitation, known as “Gway Dan Tayegu Jwaiba,” to attend the 21st National Jyapu Day Programme as the Chief Guest.

A team of nearly 100 individuals, including federal lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha and Jyapu Culture Development Fund Chairman Mangal Krishna Maharjan, extended the invitation to the Prime Minister on Wednesday. The ceremony featured the traditional Newari music and the presentation of sagun (auspicious food items), symbolizing the formal invitation.

Jyapu Day and Yomari Punhi Festivities

This year, Jyapu Day coincides with Yomari Punhi, a traditional Newari festival, and will be celebrated on December 15, 2024. The main event will take place at Basantapur, Kathmandu, featuring a cultural rally and the presentation of the Jyapu Talent Prize.

PM Oli Emphasizes Cultural Conservation

Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Oli lauded Newari culture as a unique, rich, and historically significant way of life. He highlighted the importance of conserving and promoting this cultural heritage and assured government support in strengthening the Jyapu Guthi’s reserve fund to preserve its traditions and initiatives.

The National Jyapu Day Programme is an annual celebration that underscores the contributions of the Jyapu community to Nepal’s rich cultural tapestry.
