PM Oli Mourns Demise of Former US President Jimmy Carter
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Carter passed away peacefully on Sunday at the age of 100 in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family.
Taking to the social platform X, Prime Minister Oli wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of former President and Nobel laureate Jimmy Carter. He leaves a lasting legacy of philanthropy and dedication to human rights and peace. Fondly recalling his 2013 visit to Nepal. May his family and the American people find strength in this loss.”
Carter, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his tireless efforts in promoting peace, democracy, and human rights, first visited Nepal in 2008 as an observer for the country’s historic first Constituent Assembly elections.
Diagnosed with melanoma in 2015, Carter had been receiving hospice care since February 2023. His passing comes just over a year after the death of his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in 2023 at the age of 96.
Jimmy Carter’s enduring contributions to philanthropy, peace, and social development continue to inspire leaders and citizens worldwide.
