PM Oli Pledges Improvement in SEE Results to 70% at National Education Day Event
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that policy measures are underway to elevate the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) pass rate to around 70%. Speaking at a program organized by the National Education Day, 2081 Celebration Main Committee in Kathmandu today, the Prime Minister stressed the government’s commitment to addressing educational backwardness and improving outcomes for students.
PM Oli highlighted that the current pass rate for the SEE hovers around 50%, and the government is working to significantly enhance these results. One of the key initiatives includes the introduction of online learning for major subjects to ensure better access and quality of education. “Policy-level initiatives have already begun to bring significant improvement in the SEE results. We have no time for making speeches. The education of this land that is home to knowledge, meditation, yoga, civilization, and culture cannot remain in the backwaters now,” he stated.
Reflecting on Nepal’s educational journey, PM Oli remarked that a wave of educational development had emerged in rural areas following the establishment of democracy in 2007 BS, but progress in this sector was hindered during the Rana and Shah regimes. He noted that those rulers were more focused on their own comforts than on advancing education. “Now the republic has been established. It is the responsibility of us all not to let education remain in the backwardness in this system,” he said, urging educators to nurture citizens capable of competing on a global scale.
During the event, PM Oli presented awards to campuses, schools, and organizations that have excelled in higher education, school education, and the social sector.
National Education Day is being observed nationwide with the theme, “Knowledge, Science, Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Originality: Partnership and Systemic Competence.” The day was established to commemorate the enactment of the “Compulsory and Free Education Act, 2075,” which ensures the right to education as outlined in Nepal’s constitution. The Act was certified on Ashoj 2, making this the second year of the official celebration.
