PM Oli Urges Athletes to Uphold National Unity Amidst Efforts to Divide Society
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on athletes to resist efforts aimed at disrupting national unity by inciting divisions among people based on religion, caste, and other identities. Speaking at the opening session of the third meeting of the Central Committee of the Nepal Sports Federation today, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity in the face of such challenges.
“In a small country like ours, we have a rich diversity of castes, languages, and ideologies. This is our wealth and living heritage,” PM Oli stated. “We must not allow the nation and the sentiments of our people to be divided in various names and forms.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that the sports sector transcends caste and religion, with athletes being recognized solely on the basis of their excellence. He stressed the need for a disciplined society where laws, procedures, and rules are respected, warning that acting on whims and ignoring the law would lead society nowhere.
PM Oli also urged citizens to align themselves with the truth, as misinformation and rumors are spreading in society with the intent to mislead. He cautioned against potential efforts to undermine peace, good governance, and the rule of law, calling for vigilance in these matters.
“The constitution of the current government is committed to preventing corruption and promoting good governance. We have implemented a zero-tolerance policy against corruption,” the Prime Minister declared, pledging to take firm action against anyone found guilty of corruption.
As the Chairperson of the CPN (UML), PM Oli encouraged athletes to take on the responsibility of promoting the sports sector. He expressed his vision for sports to be embraced by all generations in society—from children to senior citizens—as a way of life, promoting its socialization and professional development.
According to the Prime Minister, sports offer opportunities for entertainment, competition, and physical fitness. He expressed optimism about the potential for Nepali athletes to achieve significant success on the international stage, provided they play professionally with dedication and passion. The government, he assured, would extend all necessary support to promote the sports sector.
Highlighting the government’s priority to the sports sector, PM Oli pointed to the ongoing efforts to upgrade the Kirtipur cricket stadium. He urged the youth involved with the Federation to contribute to building a prosperous, safe, and just society, while safeguarding national independence, democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
