PM Oli Vows to Deepen Nepal-India Relations Following Productive Talks with Indian Counterpart

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India, following a high-level meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand.

Addressing a press conference at the VVIP Lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return from the official visit, Prime Minister Oli described the meeting with his Indian counterpart as “very fruitful” and expressed optimism about future cooperation.

“We reached a mutual understanding to resolve any bilateral issues through dialogue,” PM Oli stated. “Prime Minister Modi also expressed satisfaction over our discussions. I am happy, and I believe he is equally pleased.”

The leaders discussed a range of issues focused on enhancing mutual cooperation, including economic partnerships, trade, and infrastructure development. PM Oli highlighted key topics from the meeting, such as investment opportunities, the long-stalled Pancheshwor Multi-purpose Project, and the provision of irrigation facilities in Dodhara Chandani through the Mahakali River.

While Prime Minister Modi is unable to attend the upcoming Sagarmatha Sambaad in Nepal due to a pre-scheduled visit to Europe, PM Oli assured that senior-level representatives from India would participate in the dialogue.

On the domestic front, PM Oli addressed concerns regarding ongoing protests by teachers, stating that the government views their demands positively and will engage in dialogue to find a resolution.

He also confirmed that an impartial investigation is underway into the Tinkune incident that occurred on March 28, assuring transparency and accountability in the process.
