PM Prachanda Eases Concerns: No Need to Worry Over India’s Direct Spending in Nepal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ addressed concerns surrounding the agreement with India, stating that there is no need for undue stress over the provision allowing the Indian Embassy to allocate Rs 200 million directly in Nepal.
Speaking at a meeting of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, PM Prachanda emphasized that the recent investment agreement with India does not grant unilateral decision-making powers to India in project selection or implementation.
“There is no such provision in the recent agreement with India, which allows India to select or implement projects unilaterally. Along with this, the Nepal government will have a hand in reviewing the project update as well as conducting regular inspections of the project’s status. Therefore, we do not need to stress out on other aspects of the project,” the Prime Minister clarified.
PM Prachanda assured the public that decision-making authority rests with the mechanisms of the government of Nepal, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the agreement and the government’s active involvement in overseeing and evaluating the projects.
This statement comes in response to growing concerns and speculations regarding the extent of India’s role in the agreed-upon projects. The Prime Minister’s clarification aims to reassure the public and stakeholders that the agreement is structured to maintain a balanced and mutually beneficial relationship between the two nations.
