Preliminary Report on Sankhuwasabha Helicopter Accident Reveals Flight Operation Error
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has unveiled a preliminary report shedding light on the tragic helicopter accident in Sankhuwasabha involving Simrik Air. The report underscores a critical error in the flight operation that led to the unfortunate incident.
An official from the ministry disclosed, “We have transmitted the preliminary report, compiled a month ago, to the Bureau of Inquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation in France.” This step marks a pivotal phase in the investigation process, aiming to glean insights from international expertise.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, vested with the authority to probe air accidents, has stipulated a 60-day window post the initial report’s release to solicit feedback and additional information.
Furthermore, the ministry has been actively engaging with relevant airline companies, furnishing comprehensive details and recommendations to avert the recurrence of such distressing accidents in the future.
Tragically, the incident on May 5th of the preceding year claimed the life of one individual, Babu Gurung, a local resident of Bhotkhola-4 in Sankhuwasabha district. The ill-fated Simrik Air 9N-AZZ helicopter was en route to deliver essential construction materials to the Upper Arun Hydropower Project when it met with the fatal crash at Hammare Danda in Sikprung, Hatiya, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4.
Four occupants of the helicopter sustained severe injuries, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the imperative for comprehensive safety measures within the aviation sector.
