President Paudel and PM Oli Congratulate Palesha Govardhan on Historic Paralympics Bronze Medal
President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have both extended their heartfelt congratulations to Palesha Govardhan for winning a historic bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The achievement marks a significant milestone in Nepal’s sports history, with Palesha becoming the first Nepali athlete to win a medal in the Paralympic Games.
Taking to social media this morning, President Paudel expressed pride in Palesha’s remarkable feat, stating, “The bronze medal won by Palesha, who has excelled in sports with her different abilities, is a matter of pride for Nepal and the Nepali people.”
Prime Minister Oli also took to social media to congratulate Palesha, praising her achievement as a milestone for Nepal in the international sports arena. “Palesha’s success is not just her own but a victory for the entire nation,” he noted.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which have been ongoing since August 28, witnessed Palesha’s triumph in the women’s Taekwondo under 57 kg event in the K-44 category. She secured the bronze medal by defeating Serbia’s Marija Michev with a score of 15-8. Palesha’s journey to the podium included a dominant 31-0 victory over Venezuela’s Valeria Morales in the first round and a narrow loss to Brazil’s Silvana Fernandez by 10-8 in the quarterfinals. Her resilience shone through in the repechage round, where she edged out France’s Sefi Carvajnelle 2-1, earning her the coveted bronze medal.
