Tuesday marks the main day of Indra Jatra, which began with cultural rituals on Sunday according to the lunar calendar. A chariot procession will take place in Mathillo Tole on Wednesday, followed by the women-led Nanicha Yatra on September 21. On this day, President Paudel will receive the Tika and Prasad from Goddess Kumari, and in a significant ritual, will exchange the khadga (sword) with the goddess.
Indra Jatra will conclude on September 21 with various traditional performances including the Lakhe Naach, Mahakali Naach, and Pulukisi Naach. These iconic dances, rooted in the Newari culture of the Kathmandu Valley, form a vibrant part of the festival, drawing large crowds to celebrate the rich cultural heritage.
