President Paudel Calls for Greater Public Awareness on Earthquake Safety

On the occasion of the 10th memorial of the devastating Gorkha Earthquake, President Ramchandra Paudel has underscored the urgent need to raise public awareness about earthquake safety and preparedness.
In a message issued today, President Paudel emphasized that while earthquakes are natural disasters and cannot be prevented, their potential impacts can be significantly reduced through proactive risk mitigation and informed public action. He noted that Nepal’s increasing urbanization has further heightened the vulnerability to earthquakes each year.
Highlighting the country’s challenging topography and fragile, human-built infrastructure as major contributors to earthquake risk, President Paudel urged all stakeholders to focus on widespread awareness campaigns and the adoption of effective safety measures.
The President also expressed his heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the Gorkha Earthquake of April 25, 2015, and in its aftershocks. He extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed—both directly and indirectly—to the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and the resettlement of affected communities.
