President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized that festivals like Sonam Lhosar play a vital role in strengthening Nepal’s broader national unity. In his message of best wishes on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar, the New Year festival of the Tamang community, he expressed confidence that such celebrations foster mutual goodwill, tolerance, and fraternity in Nepal’s diverse multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural society.
Extending his best wishes, the President hoped that Sonam Lhosar would further unite all Nepalis and inspire collective efforts toward building an economically and socially prosperous nation.
Sonam Lhosar, observed on Magh Shukla Pratipada, marks the beginning of the Tamang New Year. On this occasion, members of the Tamang community honor their clan deity, worship nature, recall Buddha’s teachings, and celebrate with festive gatherings. Alongside the Tamangs, other indigenous communities such as the Hyolmo, Thakali, Jirel, Nesyangwa, Bhote, Dura, and Lepcha also mark the festival according to their distinct customs and traditions.
