Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that 17 Nepali students studying in Bangladesh will be brought back to Kathmandu today. The Prime Minister stated that arrangements have been made to facilitate the return of these students from Inam Medical College in the Sawar region of Bangladesh, following requests from their concerned families.
In a message released by Prime Minister Oli on social media on Saturday night, he stated, “Due to the protest demanding the abolition of the quota system in government service in Bangladesh, Nepali students are feeling insecure. Today, I met with the families of those students. According to their request, arrangements have been made to bring 17 Nepali students studying at Inam Medical College in the Sawar area to Dhaka airport at 4 am tomorrow, and then they will return to Kathmandu.”
Prime Minister Oli also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a notice for other students who wish to return to Nepal to fill out an online form for facilitation. This initiative aims to ensure that any Nepali students in Bangladesh who feel unsafe can receive the necessary assistance to return home.
Protests are currently ongoing in Bangladesh against the reservation system in government service. According to the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka, around 3,000 Nepali students are studying in various universities across Bangladesh.
The Government of Nepal remains committed to the safety and security of its citizens abroad and continues to monitor the situation closely.
