Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to Attend 79th UN General Assembly in New York
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to depart for New York, leading a Nepali delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During his visit, the Prime Minister will address the UNGA on September 26, focusing on this year’s General Debate theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Oli will attend the Opening Session of the General Debate on September 24, and participate in a reception hosted by U.S. President Joseph Biden on September 25.
In his capacity as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Oli will deliver a speech at the Summit of the Future. Additionally, he will speak at High-Level Meetings on Sea-Level Rise and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
On September 23, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on ‘Nepal’s Journey to Democracy and Economic Prosperity’ at Columbia University. He will also speak on ‘Nepal’s Perspective: From Transitional Justice to Climate Justice’ at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum on September 27.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Oli will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA.
Accompanying the Prime Minister will be his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials. The delegation is expected to return to Kathmandu on September 30.
