Prime Minister Prachanda Concludes Pivotal Diplomatic Tour of America and China
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to return to Nepal today, marking the culmination of a significant diplomatic tour spanning America and China. His comprehensive journey, which spanned approximately 15 days, underscores Nepal’s commitment to strengthening international relations and fostering cooperation on various fronts.
Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ embarked on his diplomatic mission on 16 september when he led the Nepalese delegation to the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations, held in the United States. During his visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, he represented the government of Nepal, addressing various sessions, including the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly and a climate conference. Official media reports indicated a special meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden during his time in New York. However, in reality, their interaction was brief. Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ also engaged in bilateral discussions with leaders from various nations.
Following his time in the United States, Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ headed directly to neighboring China on October 22 for an official visit, further strengthening Nepal’s ties with its northern neighbor. During his stay in China, he held a significant high-level bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, signifying the importance of Nepal-China relations. He also actively participated in various events, including the Asian Games hosted by China.
In the capital city of Beijing, Prime Minister Prachanda engaged in fruitful talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. This visit resulted in the signing of 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Nepal and China, highlighting the commitment of both nations to collaboration and partnership in various sectors.
As part of his extensive itinerary, Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ also visited China’s autonomous region of Tibet, further emphasizing the historical and cultural connections between the two nations.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive back in Nepal at 10 o’clock, marking the conclusion of his successful diplomatic tour. His visit to America and China underscores Nepal’s commitment to fostering international relations and cooperation while further enhancing its role on the global stage.
