Prime Minister Urges Swift Payment of Government Dues to Contractors
In a recent discussion with construction entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the urgent need to settle outstanding government dues owed to contractors. The discussion, held at the Prime Minister’s office, involved key figures such as Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Chief Secretary Dr Bikuntha Aryal, Finance Secretary Dr Krishnahari Puskar, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Keshav Kumar Sharma, and Director General at the Department of Roads Sushil Babu Dhakal.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda instructed the Finance Minister to promptly release Rs 1.71 billion, the pending amount from the previous year, and an additional Rs 6.30 billion, which is due in the current fiscal year. The Prime Minister’s Private Secretariat confirmed this directive.
The move is expected to expedite development and construction projects, injecting momentum into the economy once the outstanding amounts are disbursed to the contractors. This step aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and addressing financial obligations to key stakeholders in the construction sector.
