Purnima Shrestha Named in CNN’s Extreme Athletes of 2024
Purnima Shrestha, a celebrated photojournalist and accomplished mountaineer, has been featured in CNN’s prestigious list of “Extreme Athletes Who Pushed Limits in 2024.”
The global news network honored Shrestha for her remarkable achievements in high-altitude mountaineering, particularly her record-breaking feats on Mt. Everest.
Expressing her pride and gratitude, Shrestha shared on social media, “This year, 2024, has been historic for me. I climbed Mt. Everest three times in a single season, becoming the first woman in the world to achieve this feat.” She thanked her family, friends, and supporters while expressing hope for even greater accomplishments in 2025.
Shrestha’s historic Everest ascents took place over just two weeks during the spring season, on May 12, 19, and 25. She also etched her name in history as the first Nepali woman to summit Dhaulagiri, the world’s seventh-highest peak.
Her inclusion in CNN’s list highlights her as a trailblazer in extreme sports and a source of inspiration for adventurers worldwide.
