Qatar National Day was celebrated with immense pride and enthusiasm on Monday, commemorating the unification of Qatar under its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, in 1878. The day honors the historic moment when Qatar became a unified and independent nation, laying the foundation for the modern state.
The occasion is marked annually on December 18, reflecting the legacy of Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani, who envisioned and established Qatar as a cohesive and independent country. The celebration is observed with fervor across Qatar, while Qatari embassies worldwide host events to honor the day.
In Kathmandu, the Embassy of the State of Qatar organized a series of programs to commemorate the occasion. Nepal’s Vice President, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, attended a dinner hosted by the embassy, where he extended warm wishes to the Qatari leadership and its people.
Vice President Yadav and Qatari Ambassador to Nepal, Mishaal bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, jointly inaugurated the celebration by cutting a ceremonial cake.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Al-Ansari highlighted the enduring diplomatic ties between Nepal and Qatar, established in 1977. He acknowledged the significant contributions of Nepali workers to Qatar’s development and prosperity, emphasizing their role in strengthening the bond between the two nations.
He also referred to the historical visit of His Highness the Emir of Qatar to Nepal earlier this year, which resulted in the signing of eight MoUs and agreements for cooperation, further deepening bilateral relations. Ambassador Al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s aspirations for prosperity and fostering closer ties.
Qatar National Day has been observed as an official holiday since 2007, following a decree by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, then Crown Prince. The day celebrates Qatar’s unity and independence, while also serving as an expression of love and loyalty to the nation and its people.
Throughout December, various events and activities are held to showcase Qatar’s rich heritage, customs, and traditions, reflecting the pride and resilience of its community.
