Rabi Lamichhane Transferred to Rupandehi District Prison

Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, has been remanded to Rupandehi District Prison following a court order. Lamichhane, who previously served as Nepal’s Home Minister, was in police custody at the District Police Office, Rupandehi, for two days prior to his transfer.
He was brought before the District Court in Rupandehi on Sunday morning, where the court ordered his imprisonment after completing legal proceedings. This follows a ruling by the High Court that overturned an earlier decision by the Rupandehi District Court, which had released Lamichhane on bail of Rs 10 million.
According to prison administrator Suresh Bhandari, Lamichhane underwent a medical examination lasting nearly an hour before being placed in Block Number 4 of the prison. He is currently being held in a separate section of the facility.
Lamichhane was taken into custody in Kathmandu on Friday night and transported to Bhairahawa on Saturday morning. He is facing charges related to the alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds, a case that has drawn significant public and political attention.
