Rabi Lamichhane Warns Ruling Party: ‘Stop Bullying Opposition in House’

Rashtriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane has issued a stern warning to the ruling party, urging them to refrain from displaying bullying tactics in Parliament. Lamichhane’s statement came in response to a recent commotion caused by an RSP lawmaker, Shishir Khanal, during a meeting of the House of Representatives. Khanal had made a remark suggesting that the Prime Minister had arrived Nepal from India riding on a buffalo.

Lamichhane questioned the removal of Khanal’s statement from the parliamentary records, arguing that if the Prime Minister’s words were allowed to stand, there should be no objection to retaining Khanal’s statement as well. He emphasized that the ruling party should not attempt to intimidate the opposition, as the Parliament is not solely the domain of the ruling party but rather represents all political factions.

Furthermore, Lamichhane criticized the limited time given for discussing important and sensitive issues, such as the Prime Minister’s visit to India, questioning whether it was intended as a joke. He directed his concerns towards Speaker Devraj Ghimire, highlighting the recent remarks made by the Foreign Minister, who claimed that the issue of the map depicting an unbroken India had emerged on Facebook, drawing attention to the perceived triviality of the situation.
