Rain Disrupts Flights Nationwide, Including at Tribhuvan International Airport

Persistent rainfall and low visibility disrupted flight operations across Nepal on Saturday, affecting both domestic and international services at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and other regional airports.

TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa confirmed that adverse weather conditions led to the delay and diversion of several scheduled flights. “Due to low visibility, flight schedules were significantly affected nationwide,” he stated.

Among the impacted flights, an Air Jazeera international flight was diverted to Varanasi, India, while Buddha Air’s popular mountain flight was also rerouted. Additionally, flights by Summit Air and Tara Air, bound for Lukla from Ramechhap, had to be redirected. A flight operating between Kathmandu and Thamkharka was also affected.

Light rainfall began in the Kathmandu Valley early in the morning, contributing to the disruptions. The situation has since stabilized following the cessation of rain.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the current weather instability is due to the combined influence of westerly and local winds, as well as moisture-rich air entering Nepal from the Bay of Bengal.
