Rainfall Disrupts Domestic and International Flights at TIA
The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has experienced disruptions to both domestic and international flights due to incessant rainfall that commenced on Saturday night. The persistent downpour has led to reduced visibility, prompting the diversion and cancellation of several flights, according to TIA General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari.
The inclement weather has necessitated alterations to flight paths, with the Air India aircraft en route from New Delhi, India, being rerouted to Varanasi. Additionally, flights operated by Air China and Sichuan Airlines, originating from Tianfu, China, and bound for Tianfu, have also been diverted. Further compounding the situation, flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara, as well as Kathmandu and Surkhet, have been temporarily suspended.
The adverse conditions have prompted the cancellation of three Kathmandu-Pokhara flights and one Kathmandu-Tumlingtar flight, all operated by Buddha Air. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has indicated that the rainfall is anticipated to persist until the upcoming Tuesday, exacerbating the challenges faced by aviation operations at TIA.
Travelers and airline operators have been advised to remain vigilant and stay informed about potential changes to flight schedules as authorities work to manage the impact of the ongoing weather conditions on airport operations.
