Ram Bahadur Bomjon Sentenced to 10 Years in Jail, Ordered to Pay Rs 500,000
Self-styled spiritual leader Ram Bahadur Bomjon has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Sarlahi District Court in Nepal for child sexual abuse. The court’s decision came following a guilty verdict handed down by District Judge Jivan Kumar Bhandari last week. Bomjon, who was arrested by Nepal’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Kathmandu on January 9, was placed in judicial custody by the Sarlahi District Court two days later.
The case against Bomjon stemmed from charges of raping a minor girl within his camp. The court also ordered Bomjon to pay Rs 500,000 in compensation to the victim as part of the sentencing announced on Monday.
This legal action marks a significant development in a case that had been pending for several years, with the district court having issued an arrest warrant for Bomjon four years ago.
