Ranaujireshwori Bhagawati Chariot Procession Held in Palpa to Celebrate Historic Victory
The Ranaujireshwori Bhagawati Rath Jatra, a revered chariot procession honoring the goddess, is being held today in Palpa. This annual event takes place the day after Krishna Janmastami, commemorating Nepal’s victory in the Anglo-Nepal war at Tansen.
President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to attend the chariot procession and the 205th victory rally, according to Anand Kafle, the Chief District Officer of Palpa. Alongside this, the chariot of Amannarayan will also be paraded through the streets before the Ranaujireshwori chariot.
The Lumbini Province government has declared a public holiday in Palpa district to mark this significant event. The jatra, which has become the biggest festival in Palpa, remembers the triumph of Nepali warriors over the British forces. The chariot, originally crafted by Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa in 1876 BS, continues to be a central part of the celebration.
Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya emphasized the importance of preserving such historic and cultural heritages, noting their potential to boost tourism. He also expressed hope that the Ranaujireshwori Jatra would continue to foster harmony among the diverse cultural and caste groups in the region.
