Renowned Nepali Classical Musician Gurudev Kamat Passes Away at 69
Gurudev Kamat, a prominent figure in Nepali classical music, passed away today at the age of 69. He had been suffering from kidney disease for the past few months.
Kamat received treatment in Kathmandu several times but returned to his birthplace, Pokharbhinda in Siraha, due to financial constraints that prevented further treatment. Two weeks ago, he underwent dialysis at Lahan Hospital. Unfortunately, his health had deteriorated over the past three days, according to poet Mukunda Poudel, who was close to Gurudev.
Efforts to raise funds for Kamat’s kidney transplant were spearheaded by poet Poudel, artist Radheshyam Bishwokarma, singer Prabhat Sagar, and others.
Kamat is survived by his spouse, three sons, and a daughter. His last rites will be performed in his home village, Poudel added.
Gurudev Kamat was a classical music maestro renowned in both Nepal and India, leaving a significant legacy in the world of Nepali classical music.
